Description

*SOLD* Rolex Daytona “Zenith” Ref 16520 “Patrizzi” style Dial. 40mm. Black Dial.1997 Full Set

Internal Ref: PW-MG001

Greetings.  Thanks for looking at this beautiful timepiece. We are a 5-star seller with thousands of watches sold and delivered around the world.

Presenting an exquisite 40mm Rolex “Zenith” Daytona Reference 16520 featuring a Patrizzi look dial.

This timepiece is from 1997 and is a full collectors set, complete with Inner + Outer Boxes, Manuals, Punched Papers, Original purchase receipt from 1998, Rolex service receipt (2018), Bezel Protector, Red Hang Tag and spare link.

What a stunning piece of Rolex history.

It is in excellent pre-owned condition as shown the photos and is running to modern day Rolex precision. It is unworn since its service in July 2018, so please buy with total peace of mind.

This stunning Rolex Cosmograph Daytona features the famous brown discolouration of the sub-chapter rings, named after the Italian collector, Osvaldo Patrizzi who was the first man to recognize the color changing phenomenon.

This highly desirable and sought-after imperfection only appears in some, but not all Rolex Daytona Reference 16520 thought to be between 1994 and 1995 however is evident on 16529 models as late as 1997.

The “Patrizzi” dial Daytona is all down to a rare mistake on the black dial ref 16520 where an organic varnish, called Zapon, was used to protect the Daytona’s face.

Unknown at the time, the lacquer did not provide sufficient coverage and, over the years, the silver outer tracks on the iconic sub dials oxidized, turning a brown colour as they react with UV rays.

Even more importantly to hardcore Rolex collectors, the changes do not stabilize and continue to take effect the older the watch gets, meaning every one dials looks unique, and in the world of classic Rolex, unique often equals sought-after.
